Welcome to Bygg Construction, a Maine building company focused on small, high-performance homes and structures under 1,000 square feet. We’re rooted in responsible building and inspired by the belief that small structures can spark bygg possibilities.

Our goal is to build resilient, high-performance spaces that honor Maine’s landscapes, using low-carbon materials, super-insulated assemblies, and airtight construction for draft-free comfort, continuous fresh air, and long-term durability without the risk of mold or condensation.

Our focus is on thoughtful, compact structures, including small homes, ADUs, studios, and outbuildings, designed to make the most of less space without sacrificing comfort, durability, or performance.

But Bygg isn’t just a construction company. It’s a construction model built around learning. We believe the best way to build better is to bring people into the process, creating opportunities to learn through hands-on work, collaboration, and real projects.

Bygg is the Norwegian word for barley, one of several grain-inspired threads woven through our family story.

Some of our Maine friends and neighbors are still choosing between paying the energy bill and paying the mortgage. We think better buildings should make life easier, not more expensive. High-performance means less energy wasted, lower operating costs, and homes that are comfortable, healthy, and built to last.

As the cost of construction rises, we’re looking for ways to build differently. That doesn’t mean sacrificing quality or ignoring building science. It means rethinking the spaces we build. Smaller, more thoughtfully designed structures can use fewer materials, less energy, and less land without asking people to give up comfort or quality.

And we want to take that idea a step further. What if every small home came with an ADU from the start? A thoughtfully designed home paired with a small accessory dwelling could create more housing, more flexibility, and more opportunity from a single building project.

Small doesn’t have to mean less. Sometimes, it means making better use of what we have.

Small builds, Bygg performance.
